"On The Road" Sessions

Clifton, Cape Town - Final.png

what are the "on the road" sessions?

Quite simply - its my music & me in obscure locations!

Whenever I have an opportunity to travel I always try to take my DJ equipment along.

I think about the location - will I be in a forest, near mountains, near a river or the sea... or perhaps in amongst the bustle of buildings and a crowded city?

Will I record in the daytime or at night? Will the sun be shining or will it be raining and cold?

All of these elements will influence how I think about the energy of the location and therefore what type of music would compliment those surroundings.

This is far from simply playing music outside as a gimmick - its a purposeful understanding of how music and visuals interact and trying to create something artistic from the marriage of the two.

where and when did this begin?

In 2018 I took a 3 month break from my day job and went to live & travel in Japan.

I wanted to continue my love of DJing while travelling and so considered recording DJ mixes to Mixcloud (audio only) using a laptop and DJ controller.

Separately I was considering recording videos using a selfie-stick while out walking in Japanese nature for a self-development project I was working on.

I had the Eureka moment of combining the two ideas - and the idea of recording myself DJing out in nature was born.

I searched online (Google search, YouTube) to see if anyone else was already doing this - and to my surprise no one had done this before and therefore felt exited about the prospect of trailblazing this area.

Little did I know exactly 2 years later from my first DJ video the world would be taken over by Covid-19 and thousands of DJs - unable to DJ in bars & clubs - would copy the idea.

where has the journey led me to?

Quite simply - all over the world - Japan, Hong Kong, Slovenia, Netherlands, Canary Islands, South Africa, England.

While various DJing commitments in bars and on the radio have made travelling less frequent more recently the "on the road" project is alive & well; the next on-location DJ video is always just around the corner...
